Project Overview
During my time as a Systems Engineer 1 Contractor at L3Harris Technologies, I actively sought out additional hardware experience by volunteering to support the mechanical design team on an aircraft modernization program. Through this collaboration, I was tasked with a major mechanical deliverable: designing custom support equipment for the aircraft's ejector seat system in strict adherence to manufacturing and structural standards.
Mechanical Design
To ensure the new hardware interfaced seamlessly with the ejection seat, I first modeled the entire seat, including all the intricate geometry, in Creo Parametric.
Using this geometry as a baseline, I then designed the custom support bracket and associated hardware to withstand specific structural loads. The entire process required careful consideration of material properties, strict spatial constraints within the cockpit, and precise interface points with the existing airframe.
Systems Integration & Requirements
Beyond the physical modeling, the project required strict adherence to formal systems engineering protocols. I utilized IBM DOORS to verify that the hardware met all government-mandated safety and performance requirements.
Creo Parametric Modeling
Due to the proprietary nature of the work, I am unable to share more specific technical details or actual CAD models of the finalized support equipment. However, here are some models I designed for practice in Creo Parametric during my time with L3.
